Ninilchik center offers square dancing

Square dancing is available at the Ninilchik Senior Citizens Center, 66265 Aspen Ave., near the post office, at 7 p.m. Thursdays. A caller-instructor will be on hand, and dress is casual. For more information, call (907) 567-1004 or 252-6420.

Campground construction slated

Construction work on the Chugach National Forest Trail River Campground will begin Thursday and continue through next summer. Campground improvements will include new sites, and facilities will be accessible to those with disabilities.

Half of the campground will remain open for use on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, call the Seward ranger district at (907) 224-3374.

Church to sponsor music jam sessions

The St. Francis by the Sea Episcopal Church is sponsoring weekly jam sessions at 7 p.m. Thursday at the church at the corner of Spruce Street and the Kenai Spur Highway in Keani. The public is invited to attend and join in. All ages are welcome. For more information, call 283-1970.

Swim lessons offered

The Kenai High School swimming pool's summer hours are as follows: Lap swim is from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. Mondays through Fridays; a swim workout is from 8 to 9 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; swimming lessons are from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. daily; open swim is from 1 to 2:45 p.m. daily; and private swimming lessons or pool rentals are available from 3 to 4 p.m.

The cost for lap or open swim time is $3, or $25 for a punch card good for 10 sessions.

Group swimming lesson sessions will be offered Monday through Aug. 6. Daily lessons are 40 minutes. The cost is $40 per session. Private lessons are $10 per hour.
