Seniors open children's library

The Sterling Area Senior Center is operating a children's library at the center during July and August. Partnering with Sterling Elementary, Elaine's Second Hand Shop and Triumvirate Books have loaned books for checkout. The library will be open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 3 p.m. to preschool and elementary school children. Center and AmeriCorps members will serve as librarians.

SoHi's class reunion looms

Soldotna High School 20th class reunion will be held Friday through Sunday. Classmates are asked to R.S.V.P. to Barb at

The cost is $60 per adult for the weekend. Children are free to the family picnic on Sunday. A meet-and-greet will be held at the Duck Inn Restaurant & Bar around 7 p.m. Friday. The restaurant side will available for those who want to visit in a smoke-free environment.

The dinner evening will be Saturday at the Kenai Senior Citizens Center. Anyone who can help decorate Saturday morning at 10 a.m. would be appreciated.

Dinner arrival time is 5:30 p.m. Appetizers will be served at 6 with dinner around 6:30. A DJ will play music and a no-host bar will be available.

The family picnic will start at 1 p.m. Sunday at Johnson Lake's day-use facility in Kasilof. Burgers, hot dogs and soda will be provided. Graduates are asked to bring a salad, side dish or dessert.

Weight training continues

Skyview High School athletes may attend physical training sessions from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays. The weight room also will be open to incoming eighth-grade athletes. Coaches will supervise the strength and conditioning programs.

Basketball registration begins

The Boys and Girls Club is taking registrations for basketball camp for youth in grades second through sixth from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 3 through 7 for boys, and on Aug. 10 through 14 for girls at the Kenai Recreation Center. The cost is $100. Membership is required.
