FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) -- A 15-year-old boy died beneath the wheels of a parade float carrying country line dancers on Saturday after he tried to climb on board, authorities said.

An aid crew responded to the accident on the route of the Golden Days parade through Fairbanks but was unable to revive the boy, identified as David Lee Truex of Fairbanks.

The dance group was being pulled on the back of a tractor-trailer rig. A witness told KTVF-TV in Fairbanks that Truex earlier had been admonished by his mother not to get too close to the moving rig. Truex's mother may have been onboard at the time of the accident, the witness said.

Scores of bystanders along the parade route witnessed the accident.
