Drift gillnetting closes

An emergency order was issued by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game Sunday closes drift gillnetting in parts of the central north district from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. today.

The order affects the portion of the central district north of 60 degrees, 40.35 minutes north latitude, or Collier's Dock, the southern most of the pile supported docks at Nikiski.

In the northern district, legal gear is reduced to one set gillnet per permit, measuring no more than 35 fathoms in length today from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Boot camp planned for weight loss

Red Cross to offer classes

The American Red Cross will offer a basic first aid and CPR class Wednesday and Thursday from 6 to 10 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Kenai River Center. There is a $65 fee.

Board of Forestry to meet

The Board of Forestry will meet at 9 a.m. Wednesday and 8 a.m. Thursday at the Advanced Business Services Building, 35514 Kenai Spur Highway in Soldotna. There will be an opportunity for public comment Wednesday at 1:45 p.m.

Barbecue planned for late July

Cook Inlet Keeper is holding its fifth annual Splash Bash barbecue, to show appreciation to its volunteers and members Friday from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Bishop's Beach Pavilion.

CPGH plans Safe Sitter classes
