The Soldotna Chamber of Commerce presented Savica Dalkovski this week's Yard of the Week award. The Dalkovski home, pictured is at 304 W. Sunrise, just off Kobuk Street.

The Kenai Chamber of Commerce's Kenai Beautification Garden of the Week award went to Richard and Mickey McCartan. The McCartan's two-story home off Wooded Glen Court is adorned with a plethora of white alyssum, purple petunias, daisies and oriental poppies.

Yard tip of the week: Mowing is important in ensuring that a lawn maintains a neat, groomed appearance. It also affects the growth and health of the lawn. Grass should be maintained at a height of 2 to 1 1/2 inches. It should not be allowed to grow too tall between cuttings because it takes longer for the plant to recover when all of the leaf blade or the majority of it is removed. Mowing should remove no more than one-third to one-half of the leaf blade surface at any one time.
