Anyone waiting to mow their lawn until after the Soldotna Lions Club raffle can either borrow their neighbor's mower or start making hay, with the exception of Soldotna Librarian Clerk, Kitty Galley, who now is the proud owner of a new Kubota Lawn Tractor. Galley was this year's winner of the Soldotna Lions Club annual fundraising raffle. " I knew it was the winning ticket when I bought it, but I was surprised when they called me because I didn't think the drawing was until today," said Galley astride her new mower at the Library
According to Lion Club president Tim Musgrove the mower was a very popular raffle item, "The grass did start growing early this year, but the success was all possible because of the help and dedication from each and every one of our 27 members," said Musgrove. The Lions spent numerous hours at local events selling some 465 tickets. "Some say it's easy and some say it's not, my personal secret is fear and intimidation, or just plain old friendship and a smile," laughed Musgrove.
Although Galley may be the only one with the new mower, everyone who bought a ticket was a winner because the money will go to a myriad of needed projects supported by the Soldotna Lions club. "We provide eyeglasses, scholarships to local high school and community college students, or in our community fund that provides a helping hand whenever people need it," said Musgrove.
