Guide should know the rules

Posted: Wednesday, July 22, 2009

This letter is in regards to the article, "Angler sets monster king free," in the paper July 17. The guide states that the fish was handled properly, but fishing regulations clearly state, "A king salmon 20" or longer removed from the water must be retained and becomes a part of the bag limit of the person originally hooking it."

It is very obvious that this fish is out of the water. The pelvic fin is sitting on top of the water and the head and gills are clearly out, as well. As a Kenai River guide, it is his duty to know the fishing regulations of the body of water he is fishing and abide by them.

This is a blatant violation of Alaska Sport Fishing Regulations, and he should be reprimanded accordingly.
