Nutrition classes slated

Colleen Sonnevil of the Cooperative Extension Service office will teach "Harvesting and Processing Alaska's Bounty.Learn how to harvest and process seasonal foods that are found on the Kenai Peninsula

Classes will be Thursdays from 3 to 4 p.m. at the Fireweed Diner at the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank on Kalifornsky Beach Road.

Fundraiser set to help shelter

The J Bar B is holding a fundraiser for the Mended Wings Shelter in Kasilof starting at 3 p.m. Saturday.

There will be an auction and music. Donations are welcome and may be dropped off at J Bar B.

Nikiski reunion deadline looms

The 10-year reunion weekend for the Nikiski High School class of 1999 will begin with a dinner Saturday at the North Peninsula Recreation Center at 6:30 p.m., followed by dessert and a slideshow.

On Sunday, a Family Fun Day will be held at the Nikiski pool fields from 2 to 5 p.m. Attendees are asked to bring a side dish and your family.

Transportation to be discussed

The Kenaitze Indian Tribe will hold community meetings to provide information and solicit input regarding transit needs for tribal members and customers and clients of tribe's programs and services who reside within the tribe's service delivery area.

Meetings will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Aug. 4 at the tribe's Family House at 120 N. Willow St. in Kenai for the communities of Kenai, Nikiski, Salamatof, Cohoe and Kasilof, and from 6 to 7 p.m. Aug. 4 in the conference room of Mykel's Restaurant in Soldotna, 35041 Kenai Spur Highway for the communities of Soldotna, Sterling and Cooper Landing.

Marathon gears up

The Kenai River Marathon Committee is looking for volunteers to help set up water stations, tracking runners, trail preparation and safety.

The races will include a marathon, half marathon, relay marathon and walkers half marathon and is slated from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 27. For more information, call Dr. Pete Hansen or Kris Harris at 283-4611 weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
