Area men graduate basic training

 

Delbert J. Woodside

Air Force Airman Delbert J. Woodside recently graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

During the six weeks of training, Woodside studied the Air Force mission, organization and customs and received special training in human relations.

He is the son of James Woodside of Seward and Dawn Tompkins of Amity, Ore.

Air Force Airman Michael D. Garcia recently graduated basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.

During the six weeks of training, Garcia studied the Air Force mission, organization and customs and received special training in human relations.

He is a 2000 graduate of Homer High School and is the son of Carol Garcia of Homer.

Air Force Airman Aaron T. Steiner recently graduated basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.

During the six weeks of training, Steiner studied the Air Force mission, organization and customs and received special training in human relations.

He is a 2000 graduate of Homer High School. He is the son of Robert Steiner and Renee Frederick of Homer.

Soldotna woman joins U.S. Army

Sierra M. Mello of Soldotna has enlisted in the U.S. Army's Delayed Entry Program, which allows her to join the Army, secure her guarantee and delay her actual departure date for up to one year.

Mello enlisted as a network switching systems operator maintainer. She will leave for basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C. in August.

She is the daughter of Rodger F. Mello and Deborah A. Griffin of Soldotna.

Family hosts exchange student

Mr. and Mrs. Gary Hale of Soldotna will welcome a new son for the 2001 year.

Hyung Lyul Lim, a Youth for Understanding international exchange student from Korea will stay with the family and attend Soldotna High School.

As a member of the Hale family, Hyung will participate in all family activities, from vacations to family chores. While sharing the culture of Korea with the Hales, he will learn about U. S. culture.
