Army investigates Fort Richardson soldier's death

ANCHORAGE (AP) -- Army officials are investigating the death of a Fort Richardson soldier.

Sgt. Thomas Ott, 26, was discovered by his wife in the basement of their home on the post early Monday, the U.S. Army Alaska said.

Ott was a mechanic assigned to the 21st Signal Company at Fort Richardson since March, the Army said.

Few details were released. The Army's Criminal Investigation Division is investigating Ott's death, the Army said. An autopsy will be performed at Elmendorf Air Force Base Hospital.

Ott's hometown was Logansport, Ind., where his parents live.
