Oregon man dies in traffic accident near Chickaloon

ANCHORAGE (AP) An Oregon man died Monday in a Glenn Highway traffic accident near Chickaloon.

Curtis R. Hackett, 46, of Vernonia, Ore., was a passenger in a car that attempted a left turn and was struck by an oncoming pickup truck at about 3:12 p.m.

Alaska State Troopers said Varnel Hackett, 61, also of Oregon, was driving a sedan south on the Glenn and attempted to make a left turn into the Chickaloon General Store at Mile 76 Glenn Highway. Marjorie West, 56, of Gakona, was driving north in a pickup truck and struck the sedan.

Curtis Hackett was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers said West, a passenger in her truck and Varnel Hackett suffered minor injuries.
