Longtime Kenai resident James Joseph "Joe" Handsaker died Sunday, July 18, 2010. He was 55.
A pot luck remembrance will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 25 at the Elks Club in Kenai.
Mr. Handsaker was born July 9, 1955 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He married his wife, Edie, on Dec. 22, 1979. He worked as a heavy equipment crane operator. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren, fishing and trips to Las Vegas.
His family writes, "He loved helping people and always had a kind word for everyone.
"God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be, so he put his arms around you and whispered 'Come with me.' With tearful eyes I watched you, and saw you pass away. Although I loved you dearly, I could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest. God broke my heart to prove to me, He only takes the best."
Mr. Handsaker is survived by his wife, Edie Handsaker of Kenai; daughter and son-in-law Amber and Conan Demello of Kenai; son and daughter-in-law Cori and Amanda Handsaker of Kenai; sister-in-law Diane Stanisich of Anaconda, Mont.; brother Chuck Handsaker of Anaconda, Mont.; and grandchildren Lilly Gomez, and Juniper, Evangelina and Trucker James Demello.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the James Joseph Handsaker family at Credit Union 1 in Soldotna, account No. 404164.
