Emergency order closes fishing today

An emergency fishing order has been issued for today, closing commercial salmon fishing with drift gillnets in all areas of the Central District of Upper Cook Inlet from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Set gillnetting is closed in all areas of the Upper Subdistrict except in that portion of the Kasilof section, within a half mile of the mean high tide mark on the Kenai Peninsula shoreline.

The slide show is a part of "Science on the Kenai," an interpretive program held each Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the center. Admission is free and open to the public.

The Kenai Chamber of Commerce luncheon will be held at noon Wednesday at Paradisos Restaurant. Dr. Donna Peterson, Kenai Peninsula Borough School District superintendent, will present an update. For more information, call 283-7989.
