CPGH board meeting slated

Central Peninsula General Hospital Inc. will hold a board of directors meting at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the Iliamna Conference Room at the hospital. It is open to the public. For a copy of the agenda, visit www.cpgh.org.

Seniors salmon count fundraiser continues

The Sterling Senior Center’s annual Kenai River Sockeye Salmon Count Classic fundraiser continues through 5 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $2 each to guess the number of sockeyes that cross the Fish and Game counter as of noon Aug. 10. Half of the proceeds will be divvied up between the three closest guesses.

Tickets are available at the Soldotna and Kenai Tesoro stations, Soldotna Chamber of Commerce, in Sterling at the Great Alaska Fish Camp, Bing Brown’s, Merkes RV Park and Moose River Auto, and in Nikiski from Dee Rappe at Delaires.

Friends have book sale covered

The Friends of the Kenai Community Library will hold its annual book sale Friday and Saturday at the library. The presale for Friends members will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. The public sale will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Teen center hosts summer camp

The Kenai Teen Center will host a summer camp for youth ages 11 to 13 Aug. 1 through 18 at the center. Team sports, art, cooking and field trips are some of the planned activities.

Vendors, bands sought for summer festival

The Nikiski Senior Citizens Center will host a summer festival Aug. 3-5. Bands are wanted. Parking lot and inside spaces will be available for rent for $10 per day, per space or table. For more information, call 776-7654.

Golf tourney set to swing

Soroptimist International of the Kenai Peninsula will sponsor its annual Chip Away Golf Tournament at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 5 at the Bird Homestead Golf Course on Funny River Road. Registration begins at 8 a.m. Snacks and lunch will be provided for participants. The entry fee of $65 includes registration, snacks, lunch, 18 holes of golf and opportunities to win prizes. Proceeds will benefit area women fighting cancer at Central Peninsula General Hospital and other areas that benefit women on the peninsula. VBS set for Sterling

Sterling Lutheran Church will hold vacation Bible school from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Aug. 7-11 at the church across the street from the Sterling Elementary School playground.
