Twins thump West in Legion play

Jake Simpson pitched a no-hitter, and the Kenai American Legion Post 20 Twins swept a doubleheader with West Anchorage Sunday at Coral Seymour Memorial Park in Kenai.

In the first game, Simpson struck out five and walked four as the Twins defeated West 14-1 in a 10-run rule-shortened, five-inning game.

Ethan Waters had three hits for the Twins while Luke Oliver, Luke Gilbert, Kevin Epperheimer, Jordan Waters and Jake Lamphier each had two hits. The Twins plated 13 runs in the first inning.

West’s run came on a walk and a pair of errors.

Game two also was shortened by the 10-run rule as the Twins won 19-9. Oliver had three hits while Simpson, Ethan Waters and Shawn Isaacs each had a pair of hits.

Daniel Hepner earned the win as the Twins too a 17-3 lead after three innings of play. Justin Gilbert and Oliver also pitched in the game.

The Twins will head to Fairbanks for the district tournament, which starts Wednesday.
