Soldotna resident Sarah L. Pfeifer died Saturday, July 18, 2009, at Heritage Place. She was 94.
Services will be held Monday, July 27, at Old Mission Mortuary in Wichita, Kan.
Mrs. Pfeifer was born Oct. 21, 1914, in South Fulton, Tenn. She was the last surviving sibling of 11 children born to James and Florence Pickle. She began teaching elementary school in 1934. During a visit to Wichita in 1943, she accepted a job at Beech Aircraft. After World War II, Sarah returned to teaching. In 1948, she married Warren Pfeifer.
Mrs. Pfeifer obtained a bachelor's of science degree in education from Friends University of Wichita, Kans., in 1963. In 1976, she retired from the Wichita school system, ending a 36-year career in teaching. She moved to Alaska in 2006 to be closer to her family.
"In her spare time, Sarah enjoyed sewing and was a talented quilter," her family said.
Mrs. Pfeifer was preceded in death by her husband in 2006.
She is survived by her son, John Pfeifer of Soldotna; daughter-in-law, Anna Moran, of Soldotna; and granddaughter, Olivia Pfeifer, of Soldotna.
