VBS planned

Vacation bible school will be held at the following churches:

* Sterling baptist Church, Mile 83.4 of the Sterling Highway will host VBS from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 3 through 7 for ages 4-years-old through grades six. The theme will be Operation Space: A Close Encounter with God's Word. Songs, crafts, games, snacks and drama are some of the planned activities. * The Salvation Army Kenai Peninsula Corps will host VBS from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 3 through 9 at 201 N. Forrest and 2nd Street in Kenai. Songs, crafts, games, snacks and a mini fair are some of the planned activities. For more information, ages and registration, call 283-4305.

Conference continues

Soldotna Church of God on the corner of Binkley and Redoubt in Soldotna, will host Destiny Conference 2009 from Sunday through Sunday. The theme is "Bridging the Gap (Faith, Hope, Love)." Guest speakers from all over the country will attend. Conference times will be Monday through Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily; and 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday.

Destiny Kids will provide youth ages 4 to 12 years old with some spiritual fun and nursery is available for children up to 3 years old. For more information, call 262-4729.

Former NFL player to speak at PenCC

The Rev. Joe Jackson, formerly of the Minnesota Vikings and the New York Jets, will be the guest speaker at 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Peninsula Christian Center, behind The Salvation Army in Soldotna.

In his NFL career he played with Fran Tarkenton, Joe Namath and Warren Moon. Jackson heads up Athletes In Ministry.

A fish fry, potluck and pie auction will follow the service. It is open to the public. Call 262-7416 for more information.

Building dedication Sunday

The Birch Ridge Community Church will have a celebration service for its new building at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at 33325 Echo Lake Road. A light lunch will follow the service.

ALPHA course ongoing

Free clothes offered

Kenai Fellowship Church will hold a clothing give-away from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 18 at the church at Mile 8.5 of the Kenai Spur Highway. For more information, call 260-6194.

Thrift store opens

The Lighthouse Community Church thrift store, The Sandbox, is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. The store is in the office building next to the church in Nikiski.

Potluck, study continue

Saint Luke Lutheran Church will holda potluck and study focusing on the orthodox teachings of ancient Christianity and how they pertain to some of the challenges facing the 21st Century Christian Church at 6 p.m. Wednesdays at the McLennan Kitchen, 601 Davidson St. in Kenai. Clothes ministry ongoing

Saturday Bible study on tap

Clothes Quarters open
