HAINES (AP) -- A Skagway man was killed Monday in an accident at the White Pass and Yukon Route railway, railroad officials said.

Don Barry, 55, was killed while working at the railroad shops just north of Skagway.

Details of the accident were not released by the railroad, and Skagway police would not provide details Monday evening.

Gary Danielson, a railroad vice president, said Barry's death was a shock to the railroad and to the community.

The historic White Pass and Yukon Route runs between Skagway and Carcross, Yukon Territory.
