CPGH board to hold meeting

Central Peninsula General Hospital will hold a board meeting today at 4:30 p.m. in the Iliamna room at the hospital. For more information, call 262-8129.

4-H alumni invited to walk in parade

All 4-H alumni are invited to participate in the Soldotna Progress Days Parade on Saturday. Those who would like to participate should meet on Aspen Street at the green bus at 10 a.m. and bring a sign saying how you were involved with 4-H. For more information, call 262-5824.

Chess tournament planned on peninsula

A U.S. Chess Federation rated tournament will be held at the Kenai Merit Inn Saturday and Sunday. The tournament will be five rounds using the Swiss pairing system. This is a nonelimination event. USCF membership is required and will be available at the event. All games will be played with a 90-minute time limit for each player.

Saturday registration will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Round one will start at 11 followed by round two at 3 p.m. and round three at 7 p.m. Sunday round four will begin at 10 a.m., followed by round five at 2 p.m.

Entry fees are as follows: $25 for adults, $20 for youth ages 15 to 19, $15 for scholastic ages 14 and younger and $20 for seniors ages 65 and older. Advance entry received by Friday is $5 off every fee and 75 percent of all fees will be returned as prize money. Homer garden tour scheduled

As part of Kachemak Heritage Land Trust's summer program, there will be a garden tour with Daisy Lee Bitter Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. With more than 47 years of Alaska gardening experience, Bitter has won acclaim for her garden which includes hundreds of varieties of both native and introduced hardy northern perennials.

Blood drive to be held

The Blood Bank of Alaska Kenai Peninsula Center is holding a blood drive at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church's O'Neill Hall in Soldotna Aug. 10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
