Classic appreciation

Posted: Friday, July 25, 2008

On behalf of the Kenai River Sportfishing Association, we would like to recognize the tremendous effort put forth by the more than 200 volunteers who made the 15th Kenai River Classic a great success.

Many thanks also go to the numerous local businesses and individuals who generously donated auction items.

This year the Classic again generated more than $1 million in revenue through participant fees, corporate sponsorships and auction proceeds.

Approximately $450,000 went directly into the local economy through Classic expenses, such as accommodations, food, guides, tours and transportation.

As always, proceeds will assist our program efforts and endowment fund for education, research, fisheries management and habitat protection. The progress we've made on the Kenai River in protecting this magnificent resource would not be possible without broad community involvement.

The participants who come from across the state and country leave with warm feelings about our community and the consideration, friendliness and hospitality shown by all; many cite this event as their gateway through which they gain experience and understanding of Alaska and its unique circumstances.

Our community can be truly proud of the many people who make this event possible and such a success. Our sincere appreciation to all.
