Elliott Noel Reid Sr. died Tuesday, July 23, 2002, at his Kenai home. He was 54.

There will be a visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Peninsula Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Kenai Bible Church, near the bluff. Pastor Ed Perry will officiate. There will be an Alaska State Trooper processional immediately following to the Kenai Cemetery for a military burial service. A reception will follow at 120 N. Willow.

Mr. Reid was born in Anchorage Jan. 23, 1948, and spent most of his life in Southcentral Alaska.

He served in the U.S. Army and was a decorated Vietnam veteran. He was employed at the Kenai Fire Department after serving in the military in the early 1970s. He went on to become the VPSO coordinator for Bristol Bay from 1984 to 1987 during which time he built a fire house in Port Heiden and wrote a manual teaching other Native villages how to bring fire safety and fire houses to their communities.

Mr. Reid then went on to become an Alaska State Trooper in Anchorage and worked as a court services officer until his retirement from the Soldotna branch in 2002.

"His passion was helping others. He was loved by his family and friends and he will be greatly missed," his family said.

Mr. Reid was preceded in death by his younger brother, Jason Reid.

He is survived by his parents, Don and Mary Reid of Soldotna; daughter and son-in-law, Yvonne and Jarris Bogart of Palmer; daughter, Angela Reid of Anchorage; son, Elliott Jr. of Killeen, Texas; grandchildren, Deirdre and Colten Lind of Palmer and Paige and Paitton Reid of Anchorage; brother, Eugene Reid of Kenai; sisters and brothers-in-law, Rebbecca and Kenneth Marquis and Anna and Peter Strunk, all of Kenai; and brother and sister-in-law, Archie and Carla Reid of Port Heiden.

Memorial donations may be sent to the Port Heiden Fire Station at Port Heiden, AK 99549.
