Fisher's big catch comes without ticket

An angler in Homer landed a 380.4-pound halibut Sunday, but did not have a ticket for the Homer Jackpot Halibut Derby. Not having a $10 ticket cost the angler a shot at the jackpot of about $30,000.

The lack of ticket also means that Ruth Armstrong of Eagle River still leads the derby with her 306.4-pound halibut. She caught the fish May 31.

Dave Crawford of Clinton, Utah, jumped into the lead in the July standings with a 284.6-pound fish he caught Sunday. Michael Severin of Running Springs, Calif., stayed in second place with the 233.2-pound fish he caught July 16. In third is Gary White of Kalamazoo, Mich., with a 232.4-pound fish he caught May 5; in fourth is Anchorage's Robert White with a 232-pound fish he caught on July 7; and in fifth is Jason Brown of Denver with a 225.8-pound fish he caught July 14.
