Longtime Kenai resident Emily H. DeForest died Friday, June 19, 2009, at Central Peninsula Hospital in Soldotna. She was 88.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2, at the Kenai Senior Citizens Center. Her ashes will be scattered in Kenai Lake at a later date.
Ms. DeForest was born Aug. 27, 1920, in Los Angeles. In 1968, she moved to Alaska from Beverly Hills, Calif. She had been the librarian for the Kenai Community Library from 1972 until she retired in 1999.
She was a member of The United Methodist Church of the New Covenant in Kenai. She also was involved in the Alaska historical commission and city council. She loved reading, knitting, crocheting, crossword puzzles and she loved her grandchildren.
"Grandmother loved the library and her friends and her family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her," her family said.
She was preceded in death by her son, Clifton M. Holland Sr.; granddaughter, Melissa Williams; and husband, Morgan M. DeForest.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Roberta Scott of Los Angeles; grandsons, C. Michael Holland and his wife, Julie, of Soldotna, Alan Holland of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Kerry Scott and his wife, Jennifer, of Placerville, Calif.; granddaughter, Melanie Bouse and her husband, Tom, of Huntington Beach, Calif.; great-grandchildren Desiree Houser of Kenai, Christopher Holland of Anchorage, Alannah Cerra of California; great-great-grandchildren Logan Houser, Cameron Houser and Reese Houser, all of Kenai and Chad Williams, Bailey Williams and Samuel Williams, all of Bountiful, Utah, and Lily Bouse of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Lana Jones and Tyler Jones, both of California.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Friends of the Kenai Library, Library Expansion Fund, 163 Main Street Loop Kenai, AK 99611.
