Waterfowl education planned

Kenai Peninsula Chapter of Delta Waterfowl will hold a youth waterfowl education program from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Snowshoe Gun Club. Call Steve Meyer at 252-0071 for more information.

Seniors celebrate statehood

The Sterling Senior Center will host birthday party to celebrate Alaska's 50th year as a state, from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday. Food, contests, displays, craft projects and entertainment are some of the planned activities.

Sterling residents are invited and asked to wear their favorite Alaska T-shirts and hats. For more information, call 262-6808.

Race volunteers needed

Volunteers are needed for The LeeShore Center's 22nd annual Kenai Peninsula Run for Women slated for Aug. 8.

Water table staff, lunch servers and race route safety positions are needed. Flaggers will need to take a short safety course at the Kenai Police Department a few days before the run. For more information, call 283-9479.

Volleyball tryouts announced

The Soldotna High School will hold volleyball tryouts from 3 to 7 p.m. Aug. 10 and 11. Players should wear a numbered shirt and bring court shoes, snacks and water. Players must have a sports physical prior to participating. Call 262-9501 or e-mail for more information.

Boys and Girls registration dates announced

The Boys & Girls Club registration deadlines are as follows:

* First and second grade basketball deadline is Aug. 21 at 5 p.m. The cost is $50 per player and must be a 2009 club member.

* High school basketball deadline is Aug. 28 at 5 p.m. The cost is $60 per player and must be a 2009 club member.

* The karate program registration on-going. The cost $50 per month.

Registrations will be accepted at the Kenai Recreation Center. Call 283-3318 for more information.

SoHi pool hours announced

The Soldotna High School pool will be open at the following times Aug. 10 through 21: Morning lap swim from 6 to 8 a.m.; water aerobics from 8 to 8:45 a.m. and from 9 to 9:45 a.m.; American Red Cross swimming lessons, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; private lessons from 2 to 3 p.m.; high school swimming from 3 to 6 p.m.; evening lap swim from 6 to 7 p.m.; open swim from 7 to 9 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Friday; and adult lessons from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
