UCIDA to hold board meeting

United Cook Inlet Drift Association invites all drift fishers to attend a special board of directors meeting at 10 a.m. Friday at the Cook Inlet Aquaculture Association building. A review of the 2000 fishing season and a marketing outlook for the 2001 season will be discussed.

Soldotna Elks Lodge announces Iowa Farm Days

The Soldotna Elks' Lodge will hold "Iowa Farm Days" on Saturday. A kids' party will be held from 1 to 3 p.m., featuring games, prizes, and a petting zoo, with animals provided by the 4-H Club.

Adult Iowa Farm Days will start at 6 p.m. with cocktails, followed by a barbecue dinner, games, prizes and more. For more information, contact the lodge at 262-2706.

Dog agility fun match planned

The Peninsula Dog Obedience Group will hold a dog agility fun match Aug. 2 at the hockey rink behind the Soldotna Sports Center. Check in begins at 5:30 p.m., runs start at 6 p.m. There will be two levels -- open-advanced and novice. There is a $5 fee for the first run and $3 for each additional run.

Planned courses include standard, jumpers and gamblers runs. Spectators are encouraged to come see what agility is about. For more information, call 262-6846.

Siren tests to be conducted Aug. 3

The Kenai Peninsula Borough's Office of Emergency Management will conduct the monthly alert siren test at noon Aug. 3. The test consists of the attack and alert tones. For more information, call 262-4910.

Soldotna historical tour to be presented

The Kenai Watershed Forum is presenting a historical walking tour of Soldotna with long-time resident and historian Marge Mullen at 1 p.m. Aug. 3.

The walk begins at Soldotna Creek Park parking lot and moves into town to Soldotna Elementary School. The walk is free, but donations are welcome.

The walk will be from one- to two-hours long; participants should dress for the outdoors. For directions or more information, call Kelly or Robert at 260-5449.

WRCC in need of volunteers for foot race

The Women's Resource and Crisis Center's 13th annual 5- and 10-kilometer Run for Women will be Aug. 12 at the Kenai softball fields' green strip. Volunteers are needed to assist in many capacities both on, and prior to, race day. For more information on volunteering, call Emily Aley at 283-9479.
