Funny River Festival kicks off Friday

The Funny River Festival begins Friday with a cribbage tournament at the Funny River Community Center.

Saturday's events start with a parade using the theme "Paving the Way." It will begin near the General Store and march to the community center on Pioneer Road. Games, a horseshoe tournament, cakewalk and kids' games will be held from noon to 4 p.m.

On Sunday, church will be held at 9 a.m. followed by a pancake breakfast, auction, quilt drawing and a potluck picnic and salmon bake-off.

All proceeds from the festival benefit the operation of the community center.

Dog agility fun match planned Wednesday

The Peninsula Dog Obedience Group will hold a dog agility fun match Wednesday at the hockey rink behind the Soldotna Sports Center. Check in begins at 5:30 p.m., runs start at 6 p.m. There will be two levels -- open-advanced and novice. There is a $5 fee for the first run and $3 for each additional run. Planned courses include standard, jumpers and gamblers runs. Spectators are encouraged to come see what agility is about.
