ANCHORAGE (AP) -- An Oregon woman died Monday in Fairbanks from injuries suffered in a traffic accident last month.

Alaska State Troopers said Ina Cozad, 71, of Talent, Ore., was traveling with her husband, Lewis Cozad, on June 30 when the Suburban they were driving collided with a trailer that jackknifed at Mile 310 Richardson Highway, about 50 miles south of Fairbanks.

Garry B. Whitley, 56, of British Columbia, was driving a truck pulling two empty flatbed trailers when he moved into the oncoming lane on a curve to pass bicyclists. Trooper said Whitley spotted the Cozad's Suburban coming in the opposite direction, braked and swerved back into his own lane. The braking apparently caused the rear trailer to jackknife and strike the Suburban.

The Cozads were taken to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital. Lewis Cozad was treated and released.

According to staff at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital, Ina Cozad died during surgery for her injuries.
