4H encourages parade participation

For those in 4H who would like to be in the Soldotna Progress Days parade Saturday, call Pat Lytle at 262-6599. Parents and leaders are encouraged to join.

Central Peninsula Air Fair slated for Saturday

The Central Peninsula Air Fair will be held Saturday. The day will begin with a breakfast at the Kenai Municipal Airport at 7 a.m. Poker runs will follow at various airports at 7 a.m. and a barbecue will be held at the Soldotna airport at 2:30 p.m. Poker games and prizes will be presented at the Soldotna airport after 4 p.m.

There also will be an inspection of aircraft conducted by Aviation Safety Counselors. Educational activities and interesting static aircraft displays will be available. Limited camping is available at the Kenai and Soldotna airports.

Farmer's market open on Saturday

The Central Peninsula Farmer's Market will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the across the street from JoAnn's Fabrics in Soldotna.

Soldotna used book sale slated for Saturday

The Soldotna Public Library will hold its annual used book sale as part of the Soldotna Progress Days celebration Saturday from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. Many books are priced at 25 cents each including hardbacks, fiction, nonfiction, textbooks and children's books.

Youth art workshops offered

The Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center presents two Summer Art Workshops for youth Saturday. Mixed media for ages 5 to 9 will be offered from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Drawing and painting for ages 10 to 15 will be offered from 1 to 2:30 p.m. There is a $10 materials fee. Annual bazaar and barbecue scheduled

Soldotna Senior Center's Summer Bazaar will be held Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center will also hold its Progress Days barbecue in the parking lot on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m.

Blood drive scheduled in Homer

The Blood Bank of Alaska Kenai Peninsula Center is holding a blood drive Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 215 W. Jenny Lane in Homer.

Fund-raiser for transplant patient set

There will be a spaghetti feed and fund-raiser, including a Chinese auction, for Kelcee Bass Bittick at 6 p.m. Saturday at Goodnight Out, next to Dairy Queen in Soldotna. The cost is $6. Kelcee is 11 and in need of a heart transplant. On Thursday, she is leaving for tissue samples. To donate funds, send them to Kelcee Bass Bittick, Box 2145, Soldotna, AK 99669. District ranger presents fact-finding walk

The Captain Cook State Recreation Area Program will feature Jack Sinclair, the district ranger for Captain Cook and the Prince William Sound Area, Saturday from 7 to 8 p.m. in the interpretive center near site No. 15 at the end of the Kenai Spur Highway. Sinclair will show participants what can be found on a 100-yard walk

Those attending should not bring pets.
