Food bank seeking volunteers
Kenai Peninsula Food Bank is seeking community members to volunteer in the soup kitchen, sorting vegetables in the warehouse, entering computer data or cleaning the bathrooms.
Volunteers also are needed for the annual soup supper and auction planned for Aug. 26 at Kenai Landing. For more information, call Catherine DeLacee or Linda Swarner at 262-3111.
Kids celebration set
The Boys and Girls Club will celebrate National Kids Day and the end of its soccer season from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 6 at Kenai Middle School. A free barbecue and family activities also are planned. It is open to the public. For more information, call 283-2682.
KCHS swim, diving set to begin
Kenai Central High School swimming and diving practice will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Aug. 8. Athletes will need a sports physical to participate. For more information, call 283-7476.
Swim clinic planned
A freestyle flip-turn clinic will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 8 though 10 at the Skyview High School pool. Joanne Wainwright will instruct. Drills will focus on streamlining, breakouts, underwater swimming using undulation and the freestyle flip-turn.
The clinic is open to children ages 11 and over ( USA, high school and masters.) Younger swimmers may be permitted with a coach referral. The cost is $50 and includes at T-shirt. For more information, call 262-3905 or 262-5308.
Flag football registration set
The North Peninsula Recreation Service Area will begin registration for flag football from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Aug. 17 at the Nikiski pool. Children in grades four through eight are eligible to participate. Coaches also are needed. For more information, call Rachel at 776-8800.
Social Security to be discussed
The Independent Living Center will host a presentation on how proposed changes to the Social Security will effect residents from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Kenai River Center.
