ANCHORAGE (AP) -- A head-on collision near Wasilla Thursday afternoon killed a 46-year-old Talkeetna man, according to Alaska State Troopers, and injured the driver of the other vehicle.

Warren Spaulding was heading south in his Ford Pickup at about 3:30 p.m. when a Pontiac Grand Am crossed the center line and the two vehicles collided, according to trooper spokesman Greg Wilkinson.

The driver of the Pontiac was identified as Patrick Gallagher, 40, of Big Lake.

Spaulding was declared dead at Valley Hospital. Gallagher was in critical condition there Thursday night.

There were no passengers in either vehicle.

The Parks Highway west of Wasilla was closed near Pittman Road for several hours after the crash, and traffic was routed around the site until about 8:30 p.m., according to Wilkinson.

Troopers don't believe alcohol was a factor, he said.
