ANCHORAGE (AP) -- An inspection of Alyeska Pipeline Service Co.'s marine terminal ballast water piping system in Valdez has turned up problems with a 42-inch pipe at Berth Three.
The pipe's inside liner has cracked, allowing ballast water to get between the liner and the pipe wall, officials said.
The pipe carries ballast water from tankers to Alyeska's ballast treatment facility. No ballast water has leaked from the pipe, inspectors said.
Berth Three was temporarily closed while Alyeska determines the extent of the problem.
The inspection is part of Alyeska's ongoing corrosion monitoring program, company officials said.
