KODIAK (AP) -- The Coast Guard has awarded Brechan Enterprises of Kodiak a $50 million contract for work on its Kodiak facilities.

The job order contract encompasses many areas of work on the base.

''It's a construction contract, which covers all facets of construction,'' said project manager Matt Holmstrom, including carpentry, earthwork, paving, electric and mechanical work.

The contract provides for $10 million a year, or $50 million total for the life of the contract.

Brechan was first awarded a contract for base work in November 2000.

Brechan has approximately 120 construction employees.

''We've hired a whole lot of people and with this dollar volume, we will continue to hire more people,'' Holmstrom said. ''A contract of this volume helps us keep competitive and keep people working.''
