Backcountry campfire restriction lifted

The Chugach National Forest has lifted its backcountry campfire restriction on the national forest lands on the Kenai Peninsula.

It reminds all visitors that fires must be built in fire grates or other installed containment devices constructed by the forest service; attended to continuously; when fires are extinguished, make sure it is completely out and cold to the touch; and that the discharging or using any kind of fireworks or pyrotechnic device is prohibited on national forest lands. Quilt guild to hold open sew

The Quilt Guild will hold an open sew for members from noon to 10 p.m. Thursday at the Christ Lutheran Church in Soldotna.

Members are encouraged to bring unfinished projects and show and share new projects. For more information, call 262-8098.

WRCC to hold open house

The Women's Resource and Crisis Center will hold an open house Thursday for the new community meeting room. The public is encouraged to attend. For more information and the time, call Barbara at 283-9479.

KCHS class of '64 reunion set

The Kenai High School class of 1964 will celebrate its 40-year reunion Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Students attending the school from 1950 to 1970, as well as parents and teachers from that era, are invited to join the weekend festivities at Kenai Landing, formally Columbia Wards Cannery.

Funny River Festival slated

The Funny River Festival will be held Friday and Sunday. Scheduled events are a cribbage and nickels tournament at 6 p.m. Friday and a pancake breakfast from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday, followed by a quilt raffle at 1 p.m. For more information, call Ray Price at 262-6161.

Football officials clinic slated

The Kenai Peninsula Football Officials Association will hold an officials clinic at 10 a.m. Saturday at Skyview High School. Community members interested in officiating Pop Warner or high school football are encouraged to attend.

Stop smoking class planned

Central Peninsula General Hospital will hold a seven-week class beginning Aug. 5 to help those who want to stop smoking. The course is approved by the American Lung Association. Cost is $75. For more information, call 714-4778.

Bingo, dinner fund-raiser set

The Nikiski Senior Citizens Center will host a "Potty Party" spaghetti dinner, raffle and bingo fund-raiser at 1 p.m. Aug. 8 at the center. Cost is $10 for dinner and $25 per packet (12 sheets with six cards per sheet) for bingo. It also will raffle off a new toilet.

The cost is $1 a ticket or six for $5. All proceeds will be used for septic system repairs and upgrades at the center. For more information, call 776-7654.
