West, Jensen post top times at rodeo grounds
Becky West, competing in th Open 1D class, posted the fastest time, 15.694 seconds, in National Barrel Horse Association barrel racing competition Wednesday at the Soldotna Rodeo Grounds.
In the pole bending competition, Jenna Jensen, competing in the Youth 1D class, had the fastest time at 23.019 seconds.

Kenai football practices start Monday
The first practice for the Kenai Central High School football team will be Monday at 8:30 a.m. Equipment for the high school football team will be issued on Saturday at 10 a.m. Physicals will be available on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the little theater for $15.
Kenai cross country to start Monday
The first practice for the Kenai Central High School cross country team will be Monday. The practice is both informational and a short run. The practice will start at 6 p.m. in the little theater at the high school.
Athletes must have a physical before they can run. Physicals will be available at the high school on Saturday at the little theater for $15. Athletes also must fill out paperwork before they are able to run. For this reason, athletes’ parents should show up at the first meeting or first practice. Midnight Sun rowers fare well in Wasilla
The Alaska Midnight Sun Rowing Association, which calls Mackey Lake home, had an excellent day at the Moose Nugget Regatta, hosted by the Anchorage Rowing Association at Lake Lucille in Wasilla Sunday.
The event included 17 1,000-meter races, and the Midnight Sun rowers prevailed in 10 of the 12 races the club entered.
The Anchorage Rowing Association picked up the team title and won five of the 16 races in which it had entries, and the Kenai Crewsers Rowing Club, based in Seward, won two of the five races it entered.
Winning boats for the Midnight Sun club included: the women’s eight; men’s four; men’s two; women’s four; a recreational single; a men’s single; a women’s double; the novice women’s four; a mixed eight; and a mixed double.
Football officials to meet Monday
The Kenai Peninsula Football Officials Association will hold general meetings on Monday and on Aug. 7 at 6 p.m. at Skyview High School. Anyone interested in officiating high school games is encouraged to attend. For more information, call Randy at 262-7293 or Joe at 398-7533.
