Landmark Juneau cabin torn down

Posted: Monday, July 29, 2002

JUNEAU (AP) -- A Juneau landmark has been demolished.

The Davis Log Cabin on Seward Street was torn down by work crews Saturday.

The cabin was a replica of Juneau's first public school. It was built in 1981 and had served as Juneau's visitor center for many years.

The log building had begun rotting and it was determined that repairs would be prohibitively expensive. City officials said a small park will replace the cabin.
