ANCHORAGE (AP) -- Rep. Don Young is leading members of the House Transportation Committee and staffers on a tour of Alaska this week.
Young chairs the transportation committee.
The lawmakers and staffers will visit Ketchikan, the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, Barrow, Kodiak, Valdez and Seward and will be in Alaska until August Fourth.
''It's extremely important for members of Congress and congressional staff to see Alaska and get a firsthand look at the issues facing our state,'' Young said.
Such tours have helped win passage of important Alaska legislation in the past, Young said.
The five committee members are Rep. Doug Bereuter, R-Neb.; Rep. Todd Russell Platts, R-Pa.; Rep. John Abney Culberson, R-Texas; Rep. Bill Shuster, R-Pa. and Rep. John Boozman, R-Ark.
