Troopers confirm stabbing death

Posted: Tuesday, July 29, 2003

JUNEAU (AP) Alaska State Troopers on Monday confirmed the stabbing death of an Angoon man but said no arrests have been made.

Two investigators were in the Admiralty Island community to investigate the death of Richard ''Buddy'' George Jr., 27.

George died Saturday night as a result of a stab wound to his back, said trooper spokesman Tim DeSpain.

''Foul play is suspected,'' he said.

George's body was flown to the state medical examiner's office in Anchorage for an autopsy, DeSpain said.

Officials at the Angoon Public Safety Department refused to comment on the case Monday.

DeSpain said reports from the island remain sketchy and he did not know what George had been stabbed with.

George worked construction and other jobs in Angoon. He and his partner, Deni Starr had two daughters, Kendra, 6, and Star, 17 months.
