A unique opportunity to add to your outdoor fishing, hiking, kayaking, canoeing or mountain climbing adventure on the Peninsula, an outdoor cultural experience not to be forgotten; Shakespeare's Hamlet. The Fairbanks Shakespeare Theatre (FST) will be presenting the classic tale of a family torn apart by passion, betrayal and revenge for one performance only, Sunday, August 3rd at 3:00pm at the Diamond M Ranch on K-Beach Rd.
As the only theatre company in Alaska dedicated to bringing Shakespeare's works to stage, FST draws artists from all over the world to live and perform in Alaska's Interior each summer. FST first presented Hamlet outdoors in 2002. The production celebrated the 10th outdoor performance by FST. Founded in 1994 by a group of actors who love Shakespeare, the theatre has grown into an acclaimed statewide touring company and will be coming to the Peninsula for the first time in August. Following the Kenai performance the company will take the performance to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in Scotland.

Jake Waid has drawn critical acclaim for his portrayal of Shakespeare's Hamlet. Waid has been working and training in theatre in the Northwest for the last 10 years and received the 1997 Diversity Scholarship at Freehold Actors Studio. Describing the outdoor performance, a critic wrote: "Together the cast and crew dramatize a spooky, powerful, ritualistic telling of one of the world's most famous stories. The performance is remarkable, theatrical ingenuity, masterpiece and fun."
The outdoor performance at the Diamond M Ranch will have rain provisions for the audience, but those attending are asked to bring blankets or lawn chairs. Everyone under 18 will be admitted free, senior citizen tickets are $10, and general admission is only $15. Advance tickets are available at Charlottes in Kenai or Riverside Books in Soldotna.
