Oilers, Bucs rained out

The Peninsula Oilers had their opening game in the Gillette Wood Bat Invitational rained out Monday.

The Oilers will make up the game against the Anchorage Bucs today at 10 a.m. at Mulcahy Stadium. Peninsula will then play the Anchorage Glacier Pilots at 4 p.m. at Mulcahy.

In other tournament games Monday, the Mat-Su Miners defeated the Alaska Goldpanners of Fairbanks 4-3 and Athletes in Action defeated the Pilots 5-3.

In other Alaska Baseball League news Monday, AIA defeated the Bucs 8-2 in a league makeup game at Mulcahy.

The win clinched second place and a berth in the National Baseball Congress World Series for AIA, which, including Monday's tournament game, has now won five straight.
