Swanson River Road to see more traffic

Union Oil Company of California (Union Oil) will have increased vehicle traffic on Swanson River Road in Sterling through Sept. 30, due to multiple construction activities taking place within the company's Swanson River Field.

Company vehicles will be mostly large trucks hauling heavy equipment. For more information, call 283-2551.

La Leche group to meet

The La Leche League of Soldotna and Kenai will meet from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Frontier Community Services Playroom in the Red Diamond Center on Kalifornsky Beach Road. The league is a breastfeeding resource group that offers free monthly meetings, mother-to-mother breastfeeding support, telephone assistance and a lending library.

Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers are invited to attend. Babies are welcome.

Historical society to meet

The Soldotna Historical Society board of directors will meet at 9 a.m. Aug. 8 at the main building on Centennial Park Road. It is open to the public. For more information, call 262-4157.

Car seat check-ups planned

Safe Kids Kenai Peninsula/Central Peninsula Hospital will hold car seat check-ups at the following locations.

* Aug. 19 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Kenai Fire Department; and

* Aug. 20 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Central Emergency Services in Soldotna.

Flag football offered

North Peninsula Recreation is taking registration for its coed flag football league for youth in grades four through eight. The season will run Aug. 24 through Sept. 28.
