The Anchorage Bucs defeated the Peninsula Oilers 2-0 Sunday in Peninsula's first game in the 2001 Bucs Gillette Wood Bat Invitational at Mulcahy Stadium in Anchorage.
The Oilers continue play in the round-robin tournament today with a 5 p.m. contest against the Alaska Baseball League champion Anchorage Glacier Pilots. The game can be heard on 1140 AM.
Sunday, Bucs starter and winner Nick Gravelle dominated the Oilers. The round-robin games in the tournament are seven innings, and Gravelle went the distance. He allowed just three hits and struck out 11 batters.
Chris Reilly took the loss for the Oilers. Reilly gave up six hits in six innings of work. The two runs he gave up were unearned.
The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Oilers.
