JUNEAU (AP) The companion of an Angoon man stabbed to death Saturday night has been charged with his murder.

Denni Starr, 22, was arrested Tuesday afternoon and charged with second-degree murder in the death of Richard ''Buddy'' George Jr., 27, at the Angoon home they shared.

Starr was transported by Angoon police to Juneau and booked into Lemon Creek Correctional Center.

George and Starr had two children, daughters aged 6 and 17 months.

Trooper investigators said George and Starr argued Saturday night inside their home and George picked up the couple's 17-month-old daughter and started to leave the house.

Investigators said Starr apparently went into the kitchen, grabbed a cooking knife with a 9-inch blade and returned to the front room. The woman threatened George with the knife, and when he turned to leave, stabbed him once in the back, troopers said.

The knife went approximately 5 inches into George's back, penetrating a lung and cutting an artery. George stumbled out of the house and collapsed at the bottom of stairs, troopers said.

Emergency medical personnel responded and transported George to the Angoon Clinic, where he was declared dead.

Angoon is a village of about 550 residents on Admiralty Island community 55 miles southwest of Juneau.
