The Kenai American Legion Post 20 Twins proved to be the top team in District II, taking the district tournament in Fairbanks this week.

The Twins had a first-round bye in the three-team tournament, and won their first game 1-0 over the host Fairbanks 49ers Wednesday. On Thursday, the Twins defeated the Wasilla Road Warriors 5-0 to take the tournament title and the district’s top seed for the state tournament, which begins Tuesday.

Kevin Epperheimer pitched nine innings for the opening-game win, scattering three hits while fanning 12 batters and not issuing a walk.

In the tournament title game, the Twins plated a pair of runs in the first inning on an RBI double by Epperheimer and an RBI single from Jake Simpson.
