Time to hoop it up

The Boys & Girls Clubs would like to announce that registration for first- and second-grade Baseketball is now open. The deadline to register is Aug. 20 at 4 p.m. Registration is being done at the Kenai Rec Center. Cost is $60 and must be a 2010 member. Semi-private swim lessons available

Nikiski Pool has space available in the semi-private lessons beginning Aug. 10 through Aug. 20. Sign-ups are ongoing at the Nikiski Pool. Call 776-8800 for more information.

Cardiac support group to meet

The Cardiac Patient Support Group will meets from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. the first Monday of each month in the Redoubt Room, located in the lower level at Central Peninsula Hospital. The group invites male and female patients dealing with heart disease and their family members to participate. Funny River festival set

The annual Funny River Festival will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday. New events include live music Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. and a kids talent show. For more information, call Jill at 262-6148.

Sponsors, players sought

The Hospice board of directors is organizing it's third annual disc golf tournament At the Disc Golf course located behind Oiler's Field in Kenai to raise funds for Camp-Mend-A-Heart. The event will take place Aug. 7.

Ways to contribute include; sponsor ($500) or co-sponsor ($250) a hole; sponsor a team ($500) or a team player ($125); or make a contribution to hospice. Call hospice at 262-0453 for more information or to register.

Volunteers needed for Run for Women

Volunteers are needed for the 23rd annual Kenai Peninsula Run for Women, scheduled for August 14 in Kenai. People are need to staff water tables, serve lunch and staff safety positions along the race route. Safety volunteers (flaggers) will need to take a short safety course at the Kenai Police Department a few days before the run. For more information, contact the volunteer coordinator at 283-9479.
