FAIRBANKS (AP) -- A Fairbanks man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for killing his girlfriend last year.

Oliver Lemon, 59, was found guilty of manslaughter earlier this year in the death of Nancy Tegoseak, 39.

Police found Tegoseak dead April 23, 2001, in an apartment where she and Lemon were staying.

Police said the two had been drinking after returning from their night janitorial jobs. Friends told investigators that Lemon slapped Tegoseak knocking her from her chair onto the floor.

Tegoseak was later found dead in a bedroom. The state medical examiner's office said she died of blunt force trauma.

In handing down the sentence Tuesday Superior Court Judge Charles Pengilly said Lemon had a long criminal history with no prospects for rehabilitation.
