The chamber and city of Kenai Parks and Recreation are requesting nominations for the Green Thumb Award, formerly known as the Garden of the Week. Recipients of the award will be recognized for their beautification efforts at their residence and/or business in Kenai. Nominations should be submitted through the Kenai Chamber of Commerce or the City of Kenai Parks and Recreation Department and are being accepted through September. Children ages 6 to 12 may attend pint-size workshop cooking classes at 10 a.m. Saturdays at Allen and Petersen Cooking and Appliance Center in Kenai. Admission is two cans of food or a $2 donation to the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank. A parent must remain during the 30-minute workshops.
