Longtime Sterling resident Harold Gene Bloodworth died Friday, July 17, 2009, from cancer at Heritage Place in Soldotna. He was 73.
Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m., Monday, Aug. 3, at the Soldotna Church of God, 105 Redoubt Avenue in Soldotna. Pastor Alan Humphries will officiate.
Mr. Bloodworth was born Oct. 29, 1935, to Andrew Jackson and Mary Margaret (Boze) Bloodworth in Saint Charles, Ky. He joined the United State Army and served four years in the Korean Conflict before being honorably discharged. Mr. Bloodworth worked as a mechanic for Unocal and after 30 years of employment he retired in 1995. He was a member of the Soldotna Church of God. Mr. Bloodworth loved fishing, hunting and building things out of wood at his sawmill.
"Harold's special qualities were providing for his family; hunter, gatherer and fisherman. He loved sawing wood and building houses. He will be missed by all," his family said.
Mr. Bloodworth was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Bloodworth; and son, Timothy Boyd Bloodworth.
He is survived by his son, Richard Anthony Bloodworth of Soldotna; sisters, Barbara Suttles of Arlington, Texas, Brenda Bloodworth of Lexington, Ky., and Pat Martin of St. Charles, Ky.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Bloodworth family, P.O. Box 27, Soldotna, AK 99669.
