VBS planned

Vacation bible school will be held at the following churches:

* The United Methodist Church of the New Covenant and St. Francis By the Sea Episcopal Church will hold a joint VBS from 1 to 4 p.m. today at the United Methodist Church of the New Covenant in Kenai next to the Boys and Girls Club. The theme is Noah's Ark. Children ages 4 through 12 may participate. A closing hotdog supper will be held for children and their families at 4:15 p.m. For more information, call Pastor Marti Slater at 283-7868.

* Sterling baptist Church, Mile 83.4 of the Sterling Highway will host VBS from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday through Aug. 7 for ages 4-years-old through grades six. The theme will be Operation Space: A Close Encounter with God's Word. Songs, crafts, games, snacks and drama are some of the planned activities. * The Salvation Army Kenai Peninsula Corps will host VBS from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday through Aug. 9 at 201 N. Forrest and 2nd Street in Kenai. Songs, crafts, games, snacks and a mini fair are some of the planned activities.

ALPHA course ongoing

The Soldotna United Methodist Church, 158 South Binkley St, will hold a free 10-week ALPHA course with snack dinners at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays through Sept. 3. A nursery will be available with a reservation. To make a reservation, call 262-4958 or e-mail karolann@ak.net.

Thrift store opens

The Lighthouse Community Church thrift store, The Sandbox, is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. The store is in the office building next to the church in Nikiski.

Potluck, study continue

Saint Luke Lutheran Church will holda potluck and study focusing on the orthodox teachings of ancient Christianity and how they pertain to some of the challenges facing the 21st Century Christian Church at 6 p.m. Wednesdays at the McLennan Kitchen, 601 Davidson St. in Kenai. Clothes ministry ongoing

The Clothes 4 U Ministry offers free clothing to benefit the community. The ministry is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays at First Baptist Church Soldotna Mission House at 119 Little Ave. in Soldotna.

Saturday Bible study on tap

The Nikiski Nazarene Church will hold a Bible study on Esther at 9:30 a.m. Saturdays at the church at Mile 18 of the Kenai Spur Highway. It is open to all women.

Clothes Quarters open

The Clothes Quarters is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays at 225 S. Spruce St. behind Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Kenai. The store sells clothes and free trade coffee.

Bible study ongoing

A King James Bible study group meets at 7 p.m. Thursdays on East Echo Lake Road Soldotna. For more information, call 262-3509.

Prayer group meets for breakfast

The United Methodist Church of the New Covenant in Kenai hosts a women's prayer and share group at 7 a.m. Mondays at Charlotte's Restaurant in Kenai. It is open to all women. For more information, call 283-7868.

Recovery program offered

The Lighthouse Community Church will hold Recovery Now, a scripturally based recovery program, at 7 p.m. Fridays. The program is for anyone who is dealing with or has dealt with addiction of any kind. For more information, call 252-6445.

Nikiski Aglow meeting set

Nikiski Aglow meets at 10 a.m. Wednesdays at Nikiski New Hope Fellowship, Mile 23 of the Kenai Spur Highway. Women may attend Bible study, prayer and worship.
