JUNEAU (AP) -- Juneau firefighters extinguished several small fires set at a football field and middle school early Wednesday, the aparent work of vandals.
The fires were discovered by a Juneau police officer patrolling the area around Floyd Dryden Middle School at about 1 a.m.
Two trash cans were burning on the metal bleachers and a car tire was burning beneath the stands. The officer also discovered a trash can burning near the entranceway to the school and another can that had burned itself out.
Juneau School Superintendent Gary Bader said there was no damage done to the school.
Early Tuesday police found a portable toilet in flames at a nearby park on Riverside Drive. The cause of that fire has not been determined, police said.
