Refuge plans August activities
The Kenai National Wildlife Refuge visitor center will host the following events. For more information, call 262-7021:
· Wildlife films Shown daily at noon, 1, 2, 3 and 4 p.m.
At noon, 2 and 4 p.m. "Kenai National Wildlife Refuge: Where Wildlife Comes First" (10 min.) the refuge's wildlife story. Learn about its recreational opportunities.
At 1 p.m. "Showdown at Grizzly River" (55 min.) Journey to McNeil River to enjoy the spectacle of grizzlies competing with each other for salmon resources.
At 3 p.m. Sled Dogs (55 min.) Follow the adventures of Alaska sled dogs as they race the 1,100 mile Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.
· The Environmental Education Center is open from 10 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Free Wild Berry Fun Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 17. Wild berry treats, activities and berry identification walks are some of the planned activities. Also a free drawing will be held for wild berry books and products.
Berry identification walks for families with young children are held at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Walks at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. are for ages 10 and older.

Friendship mission seeks volunteers
The Friendship Mission is seeking volunteers to help at 8 a.m. Saturday for its work day. The group will work on replacing its roof on the main building.

Auction, spaghetti feed fundraiser set
A Chinese auction and spaghetti feed fundraiser for Kasilof resident Debbie Lampton will begin at 3 p.m. Aug. 11 at the J Bar B on the Sterling Highway. Proceeds will help defray medical costs of emergency surgery. The cost will be $10 for adults and $5 for children.
Live music also is planned.
